October news, events and campaigns

New Archway Road Action Group

A group of local people, including some from the Highgate Neighbourhood Forum, will be getting together in November to talk about Archway Road. Can we support one another to make Archway Road a greener and more pleasant place to live, work and walk? Ideas and energy welcome! If you want to join us, please reply to info@forhighgate.org.

Can we revive the old Highgate station?

Another resident is starting up a community group to approach TfL to propose leasing the old Highgate overground station site. The idea is to provide an educational, recreational and wellbeing space for the community. This space would sit in harmony with the natural forest environment of the site, while preserving the historical structures remaining on site. The site is one of the Site Allocations in our Neighbourhood Plan and is likely to be included as community use in the upcoming new Haringey Local Plan.

If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Saj via info@forhighgate.org.

Opposition to Parkland Walk access proposals

A lively Friends of the Parkland Walk AGM discussed Haringey’s proposals for a new hard surface path through the nature reserve to make it more accessible.. A motion was passed instructing the Friends Committee to press for the use of hoggin (a buff coloured soft material) or similar for path repairs and to oppose the installation of a highly engineered surface. It was also suggested that Parkland Walk users might write to their councillors on the matter. Read the full Council Consultation Report here and the Friends of Parkland Walk AGM report here.
