20 – 28thJune

The Highgate Festival returns for its 3rdyear from 20 – 28thJune, kicking off with the wonderful Fair in the Square. Events get going the next day with a focus on bringing the history of Highgate to life with walks, projects – including the return of the Pink Plaques – and exhibitions that reveal the lives of fellow locals. New for this year is Dead Poets Live – an evening of readings in Highgate Cemetery of works of poets associated with Highgate .

During the week we celebrate local talent and creatives with various music, spoken word and comedy events in our great pubs and venues and our Art Trail and exhibition that reveal the diverse range of artists, photographers and makers that form the creative underbelly of Highgate.

The final weekend 27/28thexplores the future of Highgate in terms of how we can become more sustainable addressing issues such as waste, recycling, energy and our connection to and love for the wonderful natural habitats in Highgate and how they contribute to our health and well-being.  Walks in our local open spaces, a cycling and running challenge and a mini-eco fair will provide ideas and actions. We are inviting local schools to create furniture from waste materials and will be taking inspiration from the wonderful Think&Do Climate Café down in Kentish Town (www.thinkanddocamden.org.uk) which emerged from Camden Council’s Citizens’ Assembly.

Other favourites such Open House and Open Gardens return by popular demand and we are hoping to once again celebrate the wondrous talent of George Michael with his fans.

The Highgate Festival is organised by a small team of local volunteers and we are still keen to hear from anyone who would like to organise an event, exhibition, project or something else! The Highgate Festival is all about creating new connections in our community. Or get involved in other ways by offering skills or sponsorship. Please visit www.highgatefestival.org to get in touch and sign up to our updates. We very much hope to see you at something in June.
