Autumn Update

STOP PRESS: Camden’s Community Support Bus – providing a BMI and Know Your Risk score assessment, blood pressure check, flu and COVID vaccinations and smoking cessation advice – will be a Holly Lodge Community Centre (30 Makepeace Avenue, N6 6HL) on Monday 21 October from 11am-4pm. This is a free, walk-in service with no appointment necessary.

Dartmouth Park Healthy Neighbourhood Update

As many of you will know, the Co-design phase of the proposal to create a “healthy neighbourhood” in Dartmouth Park has now closed. Camden Council officers will now review the huge amount of feedback from this phase, as well as the evidence collected during the earlier engagement phase. If the Council decide to proceed with the scheme, the proposal will be refined to take account of the feedback and engagement data and then there will be a formal Consultation on the new proposal. If there is then a decision to progress the scheme, there will be a monitored, temporary trial for up to 18 months – and no doubt further refinement – before any final decision is made.

HNF is currently bringing together existing ideas for mitigating problems and bringing benefits to the Highgate area beyond the DPHN proposal – see our Response for detail – in the hope that they can inform thinking and be incorporated into the next iteration of the DPHN proposal.

Many local people have serious concerns about the impact of the scheme but there is some recent research from an Imperial College study into three Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) in Islington and a national study, commissioned by the last Government, which provide some useful impartial evidence.

Inaugural Highgate Art Fair

Highgate Art Fair will be hosted by Highgate Primary School on 9 and 10 November from 11am-8pm on Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sunday. Featuring the work of international and local artists including (clockwise from top left above) Sophy Wollaston, James Lloyd, Melissa Lipkin and Storm Thorgerson, there will also be a collection of children’s art, community workshops and installations. All proceeds from the Highgate Art Fair digital auction will go to the School to support its commitment to excellence in the arts. Find out more here.

Archway Campus planning application

You can now view the full planning application for the Archway Campus site on the Islington planning portal. The basic facts are that it will provide 178 residential units, with 51% “affordable”, of which 58 will be social rent and 33 for key workers (at London Living Rents for Whittington Hospital staT). There will be 242 student units in a 27-story tower. The site will be car free, except for seven Blue Badge parking spaces.

Local organisations, including Better Archway Forum, have been working for many years to fight for more social housing and community benefit, as part of a much desired redevelopment of the site. But they are campaigning against this latest proposal as being over-developed and not addressing urgent local housing need, amongst other issues. See their campaign here.
