Wellington development plans have not been approved
Please note: Haringey have NOT approved this scheme as of October 2025 – more information as we have it.

Haringey Council has given the go ahead on their own scheme to build 16 homes on the Wellington Roundabout at the north end of Archway Road. Their illustration above gives a curiously peaceful impression of this noisy and polluted site and we can only hope that the “Passivhaus insulation principles” promised for the 16 new homes will ameliorate this for their residents. Comment on Cemetery conservation plans
There’s still just time to comment on Highgate Cemetery’s revised plans for conserving this vital Highgate resource – the many thousands of people who visit the Cemetery bring much needed custom to Highgate’s shops and businesses. Unfortunately, some grave owners are still objecting to the proposals, despite the removal of the Gardeners’ Building (as we reported in the August newsletter). This threatens the Cemetery meeting the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s deadline to secure funding for urgent works. Free tech advice in Highgate
Coffee and Computers is back for the new term offering friendly free advice on using your computer, tablet or phone. The sessions are held at the Highgate Society, Jacksons Lane and Highgate School

Channing School are also running their Communiteas offering tech advice with a side helping of delicious cake! They will be held on 9 October and 6 November in the Channing Senior School Dining Hall (entrance at street level near the car gates).
Dartmouth Park Autumn Ride

There will be a Community Bike Ride from Navigator Square in Archway to Parliament Hill Farmer’s Market onSaturday 4 October at 11am. All ages welcome for a marshalled ride of 30-40 mins. Find our more here.

News from Parkland Walk
We hear from the Friends of Parkland Walk that half of the Islington section in the vicinity of Mount View Bridge will be closed off for the next few weeks while essential maintenance works on the Bridge are carried out by Islington Council. Meanwhile, the Stanhope Road bridge is nearly complete and seeding and planting of the embankment will be carried out when there is a suitable amount of rainfall.Welcome visitors to the Wildlife Trail pond include Treecreepers, Robins and Song Thrushes and even Britain’s smallest birds Goldcrests – a sure sign that the site is delivering a healthy supply of invertebrates.

New Draft Haringey Local Plan
Haringey Council have approved for consultation a new Draft Local Plan that provides a framework for how land will be used, affordable homes and infrastructure are delivered, and the borough’s response to major challenges such as climate change and homelessness. A consultation on the Plan will be launched in October and we will publish a link to this as soon as it is available. HNF will be meeting Haringey officials to discuss how the Plan impacts Highgate in the next few weeks, so do get in touch via info@forhighgate.orgto let us know what issues you would like us to raise with them.
Haringey Council are calling for applications by 28 November to their Community Carbon Fund. Local groups, schools and businesses are invited to apply for a slice of £100,000 to start or expand a carbon cutting project. Find out more here.
Haringey Climate Partnership to discuss food systems
The next Haringey Climate Partnership meeting will be at Alexandra House in Wood Green  on Thursday 9 October from 6pm. The theme will be food growing and community efforts to promote more resilient food systems. A number of local organisations will share their projects to transform our food system for communities, climate, nature and justice. More details and register your attendance here.
