Your ideas wanted for the Biodiversity Brainstorm
We’re inviting everyone to present one idea and an image to help us all increase the biodiversity of our gardens, balconies and allotments + create wildlife corridors between our green spaces. There will then be a chance for discussion and exchange of ideas. Let us know your top idea at info@forhighgate.org and join us from 2-4pm on Saturday 22 April in the Lux Conservatory in Waterlow Park to find out what you can do.
Growing Green
One of the participants at the Brainstorm will be new Highgate charity Growing Green. They specialise in rewilding schools with mini forests, native hedges, wildflower meadows, hedgehog and bird habitats. Find out more and join in here.
Hear about London climate change policies at our AGM
Deputy London Mayor Joanne McCartney (our London Assembly Member) will be the guest speaker at our AGM 2023. We have asked her to focus on how the Mayor and the GLA are addressing the Climate Emergency and making London greener. Do join us at 7pm on Monday 15 May at Lauderdale House.
Lauderdale House Heritage Weekend
Don’t forget it’s Lauderdale House’s annual Heritage Weekend this Saturday and Sunday 25-26 February. Catch the Heritage Fair of local organisations from 12-5pm on Saturday + talks on what Roman Potters, Tudor Shepherds and Victorian Builders have in common and Highgate’s Jewish and Iranian heritage. Sunday is for families to explore the history of the house and the area. More
New development plans for Archway
SevenCapital, the new owners of the old Holborn Union site at the bottom of Highgate Hill have unveiled their proposed development plans for the site. Of most concern to Highgate residents is the proposed 36 story tower on the corner next to the Archway Tavern. See details of the scheme here.
Guidance on building a greener, more accessible London
The Mayor of London has adopted four new pieces of planning guidance on Sustainable Transport, Walking and Cycling; Urban Greening; Air Quality Neutral (which includes regulations banning woodburning stoves in new builds); and Air Quality Positive. These lay out the practical policies which will translate the London Plan 2021 into action.
